Cold Snap Makes EU Tap Its Gas Reserves at Faster Pace: Chart

A colder-than-normal start to the winter boosted Europe’s demand for natural gas while a 16 percent increase in prices since the start of the heating season on Oct. 1 encouraged traders to tap fuel stored at lower cost during the summer. Storage sites are being depleted at a faster pace than normal before the coldest months arrive, according to data from Gas Infrastructure Europe.
