Japanese Companies Have More Patents Than New Products: Chart

Japan and its companies are world leaders in inventiveness - with almost 300,000 patents filed in 2014 - more than the U.S. or China. Yet, Japanese companies were much less aggressive with taking those ideas and turning them into innovative new products and businesses. Closing that innovation gap is one way the nation could raise its growth as its population shrinks.
