Foreign Purchases of Canada Securities in 2016 Reaches Record

Net purchases by international investors of Canadian stocks, bonds and money market paper rose to a record C$108.1 billion in the January to August period, the federal statistics agency reported Monday.

Bonds made up C$73.6 billion of the total, followed by C$30.7 billion in equities, Statistics Canada said from Ottawa.

In August, net foreign purchases of the country’s securities rose for an eighth-straight month to C$12.7 billion.
