Refugee Meet With Merkel Should Speed Decisions, Standard Says

The European Union needs to accelerate its decision-making process regarding aid to the countries most-impacted by the refugee crisis, Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern told Der Standard newspaper on Friday.

The goal of Saturday’s meeting in Vienna, headlined by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, should be “an accurate report of what is happening at each border and what kind of assistance is needed,” Kern said. Leaders from Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia are also expected at the meeting.

“If we can’t solve this problem, it draws into question the whole EU project,” he said.
