Guggenheim Hires Jefferies’s Robert Bayer for Industrials Deals

  • Bayer to be a senior managing director, based in New York
  • He’ll work with clients in paper, forest-products industries

Guggenheim Partners, the firm run by Chief Executive Officer Mark Walter, hired Robert Bayer from Jefferies Group to work with clients in forest-product-related industries.

Bayer will join as a senior managing director in the industrials investment banking group, according to a statement Thursday from Guggenheim, which is based in New York and Chicago.

Gerald Donini and Mark Van Lith have been expanding the securities business since being named co-heads last year. The firm added Gunter Frangenberg from Jefferies early this year to advise chemical companies.

“We are pleased to welcome Robert,” Van Lith said in the statement. “His deep knowledge of, and relationships within, the paper, packaging, and forest products sectors will complement our industrials team.”

Bayer will join in November and be based in New York, according to Guggenheim. He was a managing director at Jefferies and previously worked at firms including Merrill Lynch. Richard Khaleel, a spokesman for New York-based Jefferies, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
