Nigerian Troops Kill 16 Militants in Northeast Attack, Army Says

At least 16 Boko Haram Islamist militants were killed in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno state in fighting with government troops, the army said Monday.

Militants attacked Kangarwa village in the Kukawa district of the state late on Sunday and were confronted by troops that repelled them, killing a number of the assailants and recovering weapons, Sani Usman, a military spokesman, said in an e-mailed statement.
