Sales of New Zealand’s most famous fruit have soared to a record thanks to healthy demand from China and Japan. Annual kiwifruit exports climbed to NZ$1.7 billion ($1.2 billion) in June, up 41 percent on the previous year, helping offset lower earnings from dairy products amid a global price rout. The kiwifruit industry is recovering after a disease appeared in 2010 that spread through orchards and curbed sales for four years.
