Apple Inc.’s “challenges” in China -- its single biggest source of growth of late -- would be more aptly characterized as a debacle, writes Bloomberg View’s Leonid Bershidsky. The reasons are simple. After years of trailing rivals in research and development spending, despite an enormous cash pile, the iPhone maker is losing competitiveness in both hardware and software. And, writes Bershidsky, resting on its laurels spells just one thing: a big struggle to catch up.
