Hollande Popularity Climbs in Poll Following Nice Terror Attack

French President Francois Hollande’s approval rating edged higher following the July 14 terrorist attack on Nice, a poll showed.

About 17 percent of French voters approve of Hollande’s performance, up 3 points from 14 percent a month earlier, according to an Ifop poll for the Journal du Dimanche.

The increase suggests that voters aren’t swayed by opposition arguments that Hollande’s administration has failed to provide sufficient security, though they are no longer as united behind the head of state as they were following two major attacks in 2015. After 17 people were killed in and around Paris in January 2015 and another 130 in November, Hollande’s approval rating jumped to 29 percent and 27 percent respectively, according to Ifop.
