Turkey Stocks Shrugged Off Last Coup Almost 20 Years Ago: Chart

The last time the military forced out an Islamist government in Turkey, the benchmark Borsa Istanbul 100 Index benchmark fell 15 percent in the next three trading days. That was what’s now known as the Feb. 28, 1997 "Post-Modern Coup." The index then resumed its rally and ended up gaining about 250 percent that year.
