Angola Drops All Charges Against Activist Arao Bula Tempo

An Angolan court dropped all criminal charges against human rights activist Arao Bula Tempo earlier this week due to lack of evidence to support the charges, a legal advocacy group said.

Tempo and another human rights defender, co-accused Jose Marcos Mavungo, were detained in March last year, the Southern African Litigation Centre said in an e-mailed statement on Friday.

They were arrested for alleged involvement in organizing a peaceful protest against human rights violations and bad governance in the province of Cabinda. Mavungo was acquitted by the Supreme Court on May 20.
