China will overtake Japan in total advertising revenue this year for the first time, after totals in the two nations narrowed to near parity last year, according estimates by media research agency Magna Global. The biggest revenue proportion in China -- 37 percent -- came from internet ads in 2015, followed by 33 percent for television and 15 percent on paid-search services. Television produced the lion’s share in Japan at 34 percent, followed by 21 percent from internet ads and 10 percent on newspapers.
