U.K. Shares Little Changed After Three-Day Gain; Sainsbury Gains

European Stocks Retreat After Two Days of Gains

Britain’s stocks were little changed, halting a three-day advance that took them to their highest levels since the end of April.

The FTSE 100 Index slipped 0.2 percent at 8:30 a.m. in London, with 66 of its shares down. J Sainsbury Plc climbed 2.6 percent, the most among the companies on the gauge, after reporting quarterly sales that beat analyst estimates.

The broader FTSE All-Share Index was also little changed, while Ireland’s ISEQ Index lost 0.7 percent.

(A previous version of this story was corrected to show the move was for U.K. shares, not U.S. shares.)
