BlackRock’s Global Marketing Head Linda Robinson to Step Back

  • To be a vice-chairman once BlackRock finds new marketing chief

Linda Robinson, global head of marketing and communications at BlackRock Inc., plans to step back from her role and become a vice chairman at the firm, according to an internal memo provided by the company.

Robinson will leave her position once BlackRock hires a new chief marketing officer, a role that’s been filled on an interim-basis by Jim Badenhausen, global head of corporate communications, according to the memo from Larry Fink, chief executive officer. There are no plans to fill Robinson’s position once she becomes vice chairman.

Robinson, who has led a five-year branding campaign since taking her current role in 2011, wanted to step back from leading a large global function and spend more time with her two children as they enter their teenage years, according to the memo. Before assuming her marketing position, Robinson sat on BlackRock’s board of directors.

“Linda Robinson has played a central role in building BlackRock’s brand, spurring innovation to help drive our business, and assembling a world-class marketing and communications team,” wrote Fink in the memo.

Robinson, who will continue to be on the global executive committee, will help steer brand vision and strategy through a newly formed Global Brand Council that she will co-chair with the chief marketing officer, according to the memo. As vice chairman, Robinson will report to Fink. There are three other vice chairmen, Ken Wilson, Barbara Novick and Philipp Hildebrand.

The new chief marketing officer and Badenhausen will both report to Fink, according to the memo.
