The same coronal hole that triggered auroras on Mother’s Day is coming back for another possible sky-show.

This weekend, parts of the Northern Hemisphere could be in for a show if a geomagnetic storm lights up the heavens like an electrified, rainbow-swirled oil slick.

NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a geomagnetic storm watch for “moderate” activity on Saturday and Sunday. The reason: A hole in the sun’s corona is turning toward Earth, and it’s the same void that caused strong geomagnetic storming on Mother’s Day. The resulting auroras dropped deep into North America, wowing sky-gazers as far south as Arkansas.
