U.S. Auto Sales Cool Off in May

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV was the lone bright spot last month for U.S. auto sales, surprising forecasters with a small gain by offloading more to fleet customers. General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp. reported sales that fell more than analysts had estimated, while Nissan Motor Co. matched predictions with a 1 percent drop. While Volkswagen AG’s namesake brand said its May U.S. sales fell 17 percent, the data beat estimates.
