Italy’s Enel Starts 160-Megawatt Solar Plant in Chile

Enel Green Power SpA, the renewable-energy unit of Italy’s largest utility, began operations at a 160-megawatt solar farm in Antofagasta region in Chile.

The $270 million Finis Terrae solar farm will produce enough power for about 198,000 Chilean households annually, Rome-based Enel said Friday in a statement.

Finis Terrae is Enel’s largest photovoltaic farm in Chile. The plant has a long-term power purchase agreement with an unidentified buyer and the electricity generated will be delivered to Chile’s Northern Region Transmission Network, known as SING. Enel Green Power has 880 megawatts of wind, solar and hydropower projects in operation in Chile.
