Costco Wholesale Corp.’s treasure-hunt style shopping experience includes gasoline, the very fuel needed to get members to its warehouse stores. That makes it vulnerable to declines in pump prices. Monthly same-store sales growth at the retailer, which reports fiscal third-quarter earnings after the close of regular trading Wednesday, has averaged 3.75 percent this year compared with the 0.25 percent growth when fuel and the effect of foreign exchange are included.
