Central African Republic Vows Disarmament of Militias in CapitalJean-Louis Gondamoyen
The mayor of Central African Republic’s capital vowed the immediate disarmament of all militias in the city.
Taking weapons from the groups will be a top priority, Emile Gros Raymond Nakombo, who was sworn into office two weeks ago, told reporters Tuesday in Bangui, the capital.
France began withdrawing its troops from the Central African Republic last month, less than a week after Faustin-Archange Touadera was sworn in as president of the war-torn nation. The French military intervened in 2013 to stop widespread sectarian violence that had erupted in the wake of the ouster of President Francois Bozize.
