China Pork and Liquor Producers Become Stock Market Stars: Chart

As China’s investors sift for bright spots in the world’s worst-performing stock market this year, they’re honing in on producers of meat, animal feed and alcohol. Since the stock market’s low on Jan. 28, a gauge of consumer staples has jumped 18 percent to be the best performer among 10 industry groups on the CSI 300 Index, which is up 8 percent. HFT Investment Management Co. says staples have relatively better earnings prospects, meaning the rally isn’t over.
