Carney Says Bank of England Is ‘Absolutely Independent’

Mark Carney hit back against criticism of the Bank of England’s commentary on the European Union referendum debate, insisting that the institution is “absolutely independent.”

“We are identifying the risks around leave,” the governor said. “If we’re potentially going to alter the path of interest rates, we have a duty to explain that.”

Asked on whether he has overstepped the mark with the BOE’s commentary, Carney said: “absolutely not.”
