ING Sued by London Trader Over Racism, Whistleblowing Claims

  • Waheed Malik has an employment tribunal hearing set for May 25
  • Malik claims he blew the whistle on corporate misconduct

ING Groep NV was sued by a London-based trader who claims he suffered discrimination over his race and because he blew the whistle on corporate misconduct.

Waheed Malik, who still works at the bank, has a hearing May 25 at a London employment tribunal, according to court records. Malik declined to comment when contacted by phone Wednesday.

"We do not comment on individual employees," an ING spokeswoman said.

Compensation at London’s employment tribunals is capped at about 80,000 pounds ($115,500) unless claimants can prove they were victims of discrimination, or were fired for whistle-blowing.
