Aberdeen Poaches Columbia Threadneedle's European CEO Fleming

Aberdeen Asset Management Plc appointed Columbia Threadneedle Investment’s Campbell Fleming as its new global head of distribution.

Fleming leaves his post as chief executive officer for Europe and global chief operating officer at Columbia Threadneedle and will oversee 450 people for Aberdeen, covering business development, product specialists, marketing and clients services, Aberdeen said in a statement. He succeeds John Brett who stepped down from the role late last year and will join Aberdeen’s management board.

After an in-depth worldwide search process, Fleming “was identified as the outstanding candidate given his expertise and experience,” Aberdeen CEO Martin Gilbert said in the statement.

Fleming joined Threadneedle in 2009 from JPMorgan Chase & Co. before being appointed CEO of the money manager in 2013. He last year oversaw the firm’s rebranding as Columbia Threadneedle Investments to reflect the close links with U.S.-based affiliate Columbia Management. The combined firm oversees 320 billion pounds ($461 billion) in assets.
