Oscar Pistorius in Court as Murder Sentencing Set For June

Oscar Pistorius’ appeared briefly in a South African court on Monday as a judge scheduled his sentencing for June 13-17 for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The Paralympic gold medalist could face 15 years in jail for killing Steenkamp after the Supreme Court of Appeal in December changed a culpable homicide verdict that a High Court judge handed down in October 2014. Pistorius shot Steenkamp with four hollow-point bullets through a locked toilet door in his bathroom in the early hours on Valentine’s Day two years ago. The athlete said he thought she was an intruder.

South Africa’s Constitutional Court last month denied Pistorius leave to appeal his murder conviction.
