Sanders Not Expected to Meet Pope on Rome Visit, Vatican Says

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is not expected to meet Pope Francis on a visit to Rome tomorrow, the pope’s spokesman told reporters.

Father Federico Lombardi was quoted by Italian news wire Ansa as saying: “I am not aware that there will be a meeting with Sanders.”

Sanders is due to give a 10-minute speech about “The Urgency of a Moral Economy” at a Vatican conference on economic and social issues on Friday, according to the on-line program for the event.

The visit, for a conference hosted by a pontifical academy, will put Sanders at the seat of the Roman Catholic Church four days before the New York primary.

Before it's here, it's on the Bloomberg Terminal.
