The allure of credit cards is waning in China, where more people are going online to make payments. Credit-card issuance dropped 5.1 percent in 2015, the first decline since the central bank began releasing comparable figures in 2009. Online payments grew almost 50 percent annually over the past three years, according to data compiled by iResearch.
