IMF Cuts Japan GDP Forecast in Half, Sees Contraction: Chart

For the IMF, one of the biggest economic disappointments may come from Japan. The fund cut its GDP forecast for 2016, and now sees Japan’s economy shrinking slightly in 2017. Reasons include a scheduled increase in the sales tax as well as the recent stronger yen and weaker demand from emerging economies.
