Somalia Executes Man Who Helped Al-Shabaab Kill Five Journalists

A Somalia military court executed a man found guilty of helping Islamist group al-Shabaab murder five journalists, state radio reported.

Hassan Hanafi Hajji was killed by firing squad early Monday, Radio Mogadishu said. He had worked as a journalist before joining the al-Qaeda-linked militants, deputy prosecutor Abdullahi Mohamed Hussein told the broadcaster.

Human Rights Watch has criticized the Horn of Africa nation’s government for its reliance on military courts and proceedings it says fall short of international standards for fair trials.
