Emaar Says Jain to Oversee CEO Responsibilities as Lahej Leaves

  • Jain is group chief operating officer and CEO of Dubai unit
  • Lahej was named group chief executive in January 2014

Emaar Properties PJSC, the Dubai-based developer of the world’s tallest skyscraper, said group Chief Operating Officer Amit Jain is looking after the responsibilities of the chief executive officer.

Former CEO Abdulla Lahej left the company, Dubai’s biggest publicly traded developer said in a statement to the local stock exchange. Emaar didn’t specify if Lahej will be replaced. He was named to the position in January 2014 after Low Ping was named adviser to the chairman.

Emaar plans to build a $1 billion skyscraper in Dubai that will exceed the height of the Burj Khalifa, currently the world’s tallest building, it said on Sunday. The tower within the Dubai Creek Harbour project will be “a notch taller” than the 828-meter Burj Khalifa, Chairman Mohamed Alabbar said at a press conference, declining to be more specific.

Jain was named group COO and CEO of its Dubai business in December 2014. Before that he was chief financial officer.
