Former Italy Soccer Coach Cesare Maldini Dies, AC Milan Says

Cesare Maldini, the former coach of Italy’s national soccer team, has died, AC Milan said in a statement on the club’s website. He was 84.

Maldini played 412 times for AC Milan between 1954 and 1966, then became coach for the club and for the national team, according to the statement.

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said in a statement on Twitter Maldini was “a great Italian.”
