Spring Break for U.S. Stock Trading as Volume Plunges: Chart

Trading Volume Falls Off a Cliff

Share volume traded on U.S. stock exchanges has slipped since the Federal Reserve interest-rate policy decision on March 16. The measure, which spiked to 11 billion on March 18, fell to 5.1 billion on Monday, the lowest level of 2016, as trading slumped following the three-day Easter weekend. Volume may rebound this week, as Fed Chair Janet Yellen speaks in New York Tuesday and the government releases March jobs data Friday.
