China Liquor-Maker Moutai Awaits $1.3 Billion of Payment: Chart

Payments due to Kweichow Moutai Co. almost quintupled to 8.6 billion yuan ($1.3 billion) as of end-2015 from a year earlier, as the Chinese luxury-liquor maker reported earnings that missed estimates late Wednesday. It now takes more than two months to collect payments, up from 13 days in 2014, according to the seller of Moutai baijiu, one of China’s most famous brands of the fiery white spirit. There’s a silver lining, according to Phillip Securities analyst Chen Xingyu, as Moutai’s hoard of delayed payments “would be useful for maintaining stable profit growth in the future.”
