South African Building Firms Cut Jobs for Sixth Quarter: Chart

South Africa’s construction industry continues to lose jobs, with employment dropping for a sixth straight quarter, the longest run of job cuts among all the sectors in Africa’s most-industrialized economy. Builders eliminated 34,000 jobs from the third quarter of 2014 to the final three months of last year, Statistics South Africa data show. In contrast, the government, banks and retailers added jobs in the past two quarters.
