Seoul Searching for Gains as Stocks Linked to North Sour: Chart

While South Korean President Park Geun Hye says reunification between North and South Korea will produce an economic bonanza, betting on improved ties between the two countries hasn’t paid off. Park’s government announced Feb. 10 the shuttering of the jointly operated Gaeseong industrial complex in North Korea to punish Pyongyang for a nuclear test and missile launch. An index of five traded companies operating in Gaeseong shows how they have underperformed the benchmark Kospi Index since the end of the so-called Sunshine Policy of detente.
