MetLife Says IPO of Unit `May Have to Wait' Amid Market Turmoil

MetLife Inc., the insurer planning to separate a U.S. retail unit through a sale, spinoff or initial public offering, said it’s too early to give a timetable for completing a transaction.

“If one of the options is to do an IPO, you probably wouldn’t be doing one in this current market,” Chief Financial Officer John Hele said Thursday at a conference held by Bank of America Corp. “So you may have to wait.”
