Japanese Solar Power Station to Go on Sale on Yahoo Auction Site

  • The 500-kilowatt plant will start operating by November
  • Auction to be held for selected bidders from Feb. 12 to 19

A solar power station will be put up for auction in Japan on an Internet site hosted by Yahoo Japan Corp.

The 500-kilowatt plant, owned by West Energy Solution Inc., is under construction in Hiroshima prefecture and will start to operate in November, Kenji Araki, a spokesman for West Holdings Corp., which owns West Energy, said by phone Wednesday.

“This is the first time in Japan that a solar power plant will be offered in an Internet auction,” West Holdings and Yahoo Japan said in a statement Wednesday. The companies plan to hold similar auctions regularly, according to the statement.

The auction will be held on Yahoo Japan’s members-only site with selected bidders between Feb. 12 and 19 with a starting price of 161 million yen ($1.3 million), according to the statement.
