Euro-Area Jobless Decline Belies Twice the Pain for Youth: Chart

While euro-area unemployment fell to a new four-year low in the final month of 2015, the region’s youth are not closing the gap with older workers. The jobless rate for under-25 year olds dropped to 22 percent from 22.1 percent, compared with a 10.4 percent December rate for all age groups, according to Eurostat. In Greece, the youth unemployment rate was 48.6 percent in October, the last month for which there is available data.
