Japan Bank Stocks Start to Look European After BOJ Shock: Chart

The Topix Banks Index has underperformed the broader Japanese stock market by about 13 percentage points since the central bank on Friday announced it would charge financial institutions for parking some of their cash. That’s a familiar pattern for investors in European lenders, whose shares have also trailed their benchmark index since negative interest rates were adopted in June 2014.
