South Africa’s 2015 Rainfall Lowest in 112 Years, Service Says

South Africa’s rainfall in 2015 was the lowest in 112 years, the nation’s weather service said.

Total precipitation last year was 403 millimeters, the Pretoria-based South African Weather Service said in an e-mailed statement Thursday. This compares with an annual average of 608 millimeters since 1904. Rainfall has fallen below 500 millimeters annually 13 times since 1904, most recently in 2003.
