Nigeria’s Army Commutes Death Sentences for 66 Soldiers

Nigeria’s army changed the death sentences handed down to 66 soldiers for mutiny last year to 10 years in prison.

The chief of army staff reviewed the sentences after several petitions, spokesman Sani Kukasheka Usman said in an e-mailed statement on Saturday.

A Nigerian military court sentenced the soldiers to death by firing squad in 2014 because of reluctance to fight against the Islamist militant group Boko Haram.
