Australia Delays Cross-Media Ownership Change to 2016, AFR Says

Australia has delayed the relaxation of cross-media ownership rules to 2016 as the federal government tackles issues such as counter-terrorism and national security, the Australian Financial Review said, without saying where it got the information.

The cabinet will not discuss a submission on media reform by Communications Minister Mitch Fifield this week as planned, the paper said.

Fifield is still consulting the cross-bench over his proposals, which could spark mergers and acquisitions in the sector next year, the AFR said, citing unidentified people.
