Benin Prime Minister Named Ruling Party’s Presidential Candidate

The Prime Minister of Benin, Lionel Zinsou, was named the ruling party’s candidate for a presidential election set for February next year, a party spokesman said.

If elected, Zinsou will replace President Thomas Boni Yayi of the Cowry Forces for an Emerging Benin, or FCBE, party spokesman Nouhoum Bida said by phone.

Yayi won’t seek to rule beyond two terms permitted by law, Agence France-Presse reported in an interview with president on Nov. 11.

“Lionel Zinsou was chosen for his experience and ability to continue the work begun by President Yayi,” Bida said.

Before it's here, it's on the Bloomberg Terminal.
