Imperial Hires Ex-CIBC Credit Trader Jicka for Investment Grade

  • Jicka will be based in New York office, report to Greco

Imperial Capital Group, the brokerage and investment-banking firm, hired Mark Jicka as a senior credit trader to help expansion in the investment-grade market.

Jicka was named a managing director and will be based in New York, reporting to John Greco, head of high-grade and hybrid sales and trading, Imperial Capital said Tuesday in a statement. Jicka previously worked as head of fixed-income trading at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.

The investment bank has been bolstering its trading staff while some larger rivals cut back after new capital rules and a shift to electronic markets pressured fixed-income results. In June, the Los Angeles-based company hired ex-Barclays Plc banker Andrew Gold for emerging markets credit and Peter Schellbach to increase capabilities for distressed and special situations.

“Mark’s years of investment-grade experience and customer trust will be beneficial to our global institutional counterparties in markets that have become more challenging,” Tom Corcoran, president of Imperial Capital, said in the statement.

Jicka, a former U.S. Navy pilot, has more than 20 years in the securities industry and has also worked at Barclays, Deutsche Bank AG and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. He received a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern.

Tom Wallis, a spokesman for Toronto-based CIBC, had no immediate comment.
