Al-Qaeda-Linked Commander in Syria’s Aleppo Killed in Clashes

A commander in the al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front group was killed during clashes with Syrian government forces in Aleppo, the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Saturday.

Al-Masri, head of military operations in the southern outskirts of the city, was also a religious leader and his death will probably be a blow to the morale of fighters, Rami Abdurrahman, head of SOHR, said by phone from Egypt.

The al-Qaeda commander is the sixth rebel leader to be killed by government forces since Oct. 16, according to Abdurrahman.
