Belarus President Lukashenko Congratulates Critic on Nobel WinScott Rose
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko congratulated Svetlana Alexievich, a vocal critic of his government, for winning the Nobel Prize in Literature.
“Your art has moved Belarusians, as well as readers in many countries of the world,” Lukashenko said, according to an e-mailed statement late Thursday. “I’m sincerely happy for your success. I really hope that your award will serve the state and the Belarusian people.”
