Rouhani Threatens to Use `Power' Against Saudis Over Hajj Deaths

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani threatened to use “power” against Saudi Arabia over last week’s Hajj stampede in Mecca in which hundreds of Iranians died.

“Our language in this incident has been the language of emotions, fraternity and courtesy,” Rouhani said on Saturday, according to the official Islamic Republic News Agency. “If necessary, Iran will also use the language of power.” Rouhani was speaking in ceremonies marking the transfer of bodies of 104 Iranian pilgrims killed.

Tension between the two nations has escalated since the tragedy. On Sept. 30, Saudi Arabia said it intercepted an Iranian arms shipment to Yemeni rebels, who are fighting a war against a Saudi-led coalition.
