Australia Investigates Fatal Sydney Shooting Linked to Terrorism

The fatal shooting of a police employee by a 15-year-old boy in a Sydney suburb Friday is being investigated by Australian security and law-enforcement agencies, according to Foreign Minister Julie Bishop.

The shooting described by police as an act of terrorism, “highlights the challenges we have before us,” Bishop told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. in an interview Sunday. “It’s families that will be our front-line of defense against radicalized young people.”

The boy,  who was of Iraqi-Kurdish background and was born in Iran, was killed in an exchange of gunfire with officers outside a police headquarters in Parramatta.
