Nigerian Senate Chief Says He Received List of Cabinet Nominees

Nigerian Senate President Bukola Saraki said he received a list of the president’s ministerial nominees, moving Africa’s biggest economy closer to forming a cabinet more than four months after Muhammadu Buhari took power.

Buhari’s chief of stuff, Abba Kyari, and a special adviser, Ita Enang, presented the names late on Tuesday, Saraki said in a posting on his Facebook account, accompanied by photos of him being handed a brown envelope. He didn’t provide further details.

Buhari has defended taking his time to install a cabinet by saying public servants are filling the roles and providing continuity in running the government. The economy has been hit by a slump in oil prices that has hurt export earnings and the currency.

A call to Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, didn’t connect.
