LSE Names Former Treasury Director as CEO of U.K. Exchange UnitBy
London Stock Exchange Group Plc has named Nikhil Rathi as chief executive officer of its U.K. listing and stock-trading venue.
Rathi joined the company in May 2014 as chief of staff and director of international development, according to a statement on Tuesday. He previously worked in the U.K. Treasury as director of the financial services group. Rathi succeeds previous London Stock Exchange Plc Chief Alexander Justham, who said earlier this year that he wanted to step down.
“Nikhil has played a key role driving the group’s strategy in key markets, such as China and India as well as supporting key integration projects across the group,” said CEO Xavier Rolet.
The company has diversified well beyond its eponymous stock-exchange business, becoming the majority owner of LCH.Clearnet Ltd. in 2013. It also bought Frank Russell Co. for its index business and in 2007 merged with Italian stock exchange Borsa Italiana SpA.
Rathi is not the only recent recruit from the Treasury. Ramesh Chhabra, a previous press secretary to the Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, joined the company’s media team this month.
