Goldman Names Jonathan Penkin to Global Role for Growth Markets

  • Penkin to be based in London as ECM head for emerging markets
  • Aaron Arth to become sole head of ECM for Asia ex-Japan

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. named Jonathan Penkin as London-based head of its equity capital raising business for emerging markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, the bank said in an internal memo.

He will shift in coming months from his existing roles in Hong Kong as co-head of the financing group for Asia-Pacific excluding Japan and co-head of equity capital markets for Asia excluding Japan, the memo said. Connie Ling, a spokeswoman at the bank, confirmed the document.

“Growth markets are a key focus for the firm as corporate activity has
intensified in these markets and investment flows have become more robust and volatile,” the memo said.

Aaron Arth will become sole head of equity capital markets in Asia excluding Japan, with oversight of Australia and New Zealand, and Penkin will be the regional chairman of that division, the memo said.

Penkin will mainly focus on Goldman’s most important clients in the growth markets he’s covering. He will continue to be involved in Asian equity and financing activities, the document said.
